This is a shorter defense of why the word of God is preserved, in addition please see other resources e.g. av1611.com and bibel.se
In english the KJV is most truthful, whereas in Swedish the Reformation bible (bibel.se) is the most truthful. Why this is so will be elaborated with verse comparisons below.
The word of God that is truth is truth, but if verses have been altered – those verses have been altered. The Lord meant one meaning in a sentence not a hundred different ones, even if different linguistic angles can give light. However if a verse have opposite meaning and contrary meaning in modern versions, it is definitely not the original meaning. Do you not believe God led his word of the bible ? The Lord meant it in a direct way and not diffuse ?
Contemplate that our God, the creator of our world, even if the world was perfect in the beginning, there has been a decay of the world ever since the fall around 6000 years ago. Why would not God preserve his central story of how the world works in his word, the world which was created by the Word, and upon the salvation of humans depends upon. The word of God, the bible, was inspired and written and handed down through the millenias: If God could inspire the original bible-texts, why wouldnt he be able to inspire the preservation of the same bible-texts.
Why does it matter, which bible-version one uses. God may use any bible-versions to get people saved. However what do we do with the many verses that have a question marks?, or even those verses that have been removed, simply due to that a stastitical extremely small part of erroneous bible scriptures has been conjecturedly dated to some century AD. There are many examples of this, for example in the following points, illustrating from NIV a representative for all modern versions in all the world, comparing it to the KJV:
Most obvious passage that reflect the wrong philosophy of “updating” the bible
If one removes these important verses, as in NIV, then this gospel would end in verse 8:
8 Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.
Why would a gospel written down by Mark one of Jesus disciples end like that, when sharing the gospel is the most important task of the disciple, that is why the 12 last verses must be there. This is how Marks gospel really ends:
19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. 20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.
The number that titles of Jesus Christ or of the name of God “Jehovah” appears
The Lord Jesus Christ has among many titles, there are included 3 mentioned in NT. They each appear 7 times in the KJV, however in the NIV these has been altered and/or removed so that the only appear 6 times each:
The Word (John 1:1 (3 times), John 1:14(1 time), 1 John 1:1 (1 time), 1 John 5:7 (1 time; missing or in footnote of NIV), Rev. 19:13 (1 time).
Mediator (Gal. 3:19 (1 time), Gal. 2:20 (2 times; 1 missing in NIV), 1 Tim. 2:5 (1 times), Heb. 8:6 (1 times), Heb. 9:15 (1 times), Heb. 12:24 (1 times).
High priest after the order of Melchizedek (Ps. 10:4 (1 times), Heb. 5:6(1 times), Heb. 5:10(1 times), Heb. 6:20 (1 times), Heb. 7:11(1 times), Heb. 7:17 (1 times), Heb. 7:21(1 times; missing in NIV)
The Authorized version renders Jehovah in Exodus 6:3, Psalm 83:18, Isaiah 12:2, Isaiah 26:4, and three times in compound place names at Genesis 22:14, Exodus 17:15 and Judges 6:24. Hence this holy name appears 7 times in KJV. Whereas in NIV zero times, which is ironic since JWs “New World Translation” is basically founded on the modern versions philosophy of translation. The Jehovas Witnesses religion could not have been founded if it were not for the changing of the preserved text, where modern versions weaken the deity of Jesus Christ.
The bible itself assuring its inerrancy and its preserved nature
If the Lord has inspired the word from the beginning, he has most surely also inspired its preservation through holy men of God.
2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Help, Lord; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men. 2 They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak. 3 The Lord shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things: 4 Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us? 5 For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the Lord; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him. 6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 7 Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. 8 The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.
Christs teaching and words
Since Christ command “Love your enemies” can be one of the most difficult to obey, can we afford to be without anyone of his counsel on this matter ?
Matthew 5:44 (KJV)
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
Matthew 5:44 (NIV)
44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
Even when it appears in the bible, this truth is not given merely enough attention as it deserves by christians, why would anyone then want to remove it or weaken the truth in Mark 11:26.
Mark 11:26 (KJV)
26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
Mark 11:26 (NIV)
Whole verse omitted
The Deity of Christ
There are many places where they deity of Christ has been weakened in modern versions.
One prophecy in Micah 5:2 in KJV says that the promised Messiah is everlasting, however modern versions usually water this down to that he was created in ancient times, removing Jesus deity.
Micah 5:2 (KJV)
2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
Micah 5:2 (NIV)
2 But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.
Furthermore one of the strongest verses for that our Lord Jesus Christ was God manifested in the flesh is in 1 Timothy, guess where Jehovas witness interpretation of Jesus stems from “modern versions”.
1 Timothy 3:16 (KJV)
1 Timothy 3:16 (NIV)
16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
16 Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great: He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.
In Revelation 22:16, Jesus is referred to as the bright and morning star. Whereas In KJV – Isaiah 14:12-15, Satans angelic name actually appear, “Lucifer”, yet he is referred to also as a morning star in NIV.
Isaiah 14:12-15 (KJV)
12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
Isaiah 14:12-15 (NIV)
12 How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! 13 You said in your heart, “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon. 14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” 15 But you are brought down to the realm of the dead,
to the depths of the pit.
Imagine a christian armed with the armor of God, as in Ephesians 6:10, it depticts Gods word, as a sword. Imagine then that this sword has been broken at certain places, rusty or made unsharp. Imagine then the word of God that was written down iniatially by holy men, who God used to convey his Holy word – this is the most perfect sword.
Moreover the shield of faith, makes the armed christian able to defend against the wiles of the devil. “Did God really say” is the initial lie of the devil. What if some verses have been deliberately altered, to make the christian soldier weaker and more prone to unbelief of the word. If a christian do not believe in his sword, his armor, his ability to wield them and fight against the wiles of the devil, then he is weaker and more prone to be hurt by attacks from the spiritual realms. It is faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, that makes a perfect man or woman, because through faith in Christ we wear the armor of God.
